What does it take to become a Pilates instructor?
You need a teacher training course, practice hours and exams. The course teaches you the repertoire and how to teach it. The hours turn knowledge into skill. The exams show a studio you can be trusted with their clients.
Step 1: choose your first course
Most people start with Mat or Reformer. Mat is the fullest foundation and needs no equipment for practice. Reformer is what most boutique studios hire for. If you want both, a double booking saves £1,000.
Step 2: the in-person intensive
Our courses run as four or five in-person days in Altrincham: four for Mat, five for Reformer and Barre. Before you arrive you complete the online Human Movement course so the practical days can focus on movement and teaching.
Step 3: practice hours
After the intensive you complete 30 observation hours, 25 personal study hours and 25 practice teaching hours. Spread over eight weeks that is around ten hours a week, which most students fit around a job.
Step 4: exams and your first class
Two multiple choice exams and a practical exam over Zoom, all included in the fee. Then you are ready to cover classes, apply for roles on our jobs board or start your own.
How much does it cost?
£2,200 for Mat, Reformer or Barre, with nothing extra for exams or your manual. Four monthly interest-free payments are available.
How long does it take?
Three to four months from booking to first paid class is typical. Longer is fine.
