Mat or Reformer first? How to choose your first Pilates course

Which should you train in first?

It depends on where you want to teach and what you can practise on. Here is how we help students decide.

Choose Mat first if

  • You want to teach anywhere: community halls, gyms, online, your own classes.
  • You do not have regular access to a Reformer for practice hours.
  • You want the fullest understanding of the method. Mat is where the repertoire comes from.

Choose Reformer first if

  • You want to work in boutique Reformer studios, which hire more teachers than any other format right now.
  • You can practise on a Reformer at a local studio, through hire at our centre, or at home.

Or do both

A double booking of any two of Mat, Reformer and Barre is £3,400, a saving of £1,000, with six interest-free payments. Many of our students qualify in both within six months.

Still unsure?

Take the 60-second course quiz on the Qualify hub. It asks four questions and recommends a route.
